JV Water Polo Unbeaten In League Play

Led by Head Coach Alex Fortis and Assistant Coach Andrew Meylan, the JV water polo team has had a strong season thus far with a 4-0 record in league and a 9-5 record overall.  This year’s team features freshman, sophomores, and juniors, bringing a mix of both youth and experience to the JV squad.

The JV Cubs began their season with a scrimmage against Mira Costa.  The Cubs then traveled to Orange County to play five games in the Weisz Cup.  The team finished the tournament with three wins, defeating El Modena 12-4, Serra 9-5, and Santa Monica 7-5.  The Cubs fell to Corona del Mar and Aliso Niguel.  The Cubs suffered their worst lost of the season against Corona del Mar, losing by a score 1-12.

Following the Weisz Cup, the JV Cubs traveled to Laguna Beach to play in the Laguna Beach Tournament.The team suffered three defeats, losing to Santa Margarita 5-15, Laguna Beach 6-8, and Foothill 5-8.  Their one win in the tournament was a close game against Palos Verdes.  The Cubs defeated the Sea Kings by one goal, winning by a score of 9-8.

The team has been dominant throughout their league season so far with wins over St. Francis,  Notre Dame, and Alemany.  The Cubs defeated St. Francis by a score of 22-3 in their first league game on Oct. 3.  This victory was followed by a 27-1 win over Notre Dame on Oct. 4 and a 16-3 win over Alemany on Oct. 9.

Perhaps the biggest game of the season was against rival Harvard-Westlake on Oct. 7.  The JV team traveled to Harvard-Westlake and came away with a huge win, defeating the Wolverines 12-8.

The JV team looks to finish the season on a high note with five games and a tournament remaining.  The remaining schedule features big games against Orange Lutheran, Servite, and Mater Dei.  The Cubs will finish the season playing in the very competitive Grey Lunde Tournament.
