Music: Holiday Hits

Christmas music is often considered the best holiday music because of its timely relevance and warmth.

Christmas songs are very modern now, but some of the old Church songs for Christmas still thrive. For example, songs “Silent Night” and “Joy to the World” originated in a church and were sung for religious purposes of Christmas. These songs still live on, however, right next to songs focused on materialism, such as “I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas” and “Santa Baby” yet, the religious songs are perhaps even more popular, perhaps because they focus on the values of Christmas that appeal to most people.

One of the best songs of all time for the Christmas season is “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, which was highly acclaimed by the New York Times and The National at the time of it’s release.

There are plenty of other fantastic Christmas songs that didn’t get the same acclaim as this one did. While “All I Want for Christmas is You” may not focus on the religious aspect of Christmas, it appeals to audiences by talking about how couples want to be together for the season. However, its ratings couldn’t beat the ratings of Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas.”

This beloved song made its way into the heart of the people and soon became the most popular song in the United States for Christmas time and still continues to be up in the top five to this day, if not still the first. The song was even given a movie and a play about the story of Bing Crosby as it relates to “White Christmas.”

So keeping these songs in mind, the top 10 Christmas playlist is the following:

So turn up the volume and listen to those holly, jolly tunes!
