Students prepare lunches at first CubGive event in spirit of Giving Tuesday

New Executive Director of Advancement Lela Diaz held the CubGive event on Loyola’s campus on Nov. 29. In recognition of Giving Tuesday, an event started six years ago by the New York City YMCA.  The day is a time of philanthropy and giving back driven by immense media usage and service.

CubGive planned and held a lunch-packing event on Nov. 29, in which students helped make 500 sandwiches. The event made over $25,000 and is still receiving more donations. The event took place from 10:56 a.m. to the end of the school day.

Driven by an interest in philanthropy and background of community service and organizing of fundraisers in college, Diaz initiated CubGive at Loyola as a fun and accessible option to participate in the spirit of Giving Tuesday, in which more than 30,000 non-profit organizations also partook in. Diaz believes CubGive is a perfect way to spread the Jesuit mission of men and women for others while giving back to the Loyola community – students, teachers, benefactors, alumni and faculty – and the greater county of LA.
