Underclassmen Explore Interests at Activities Fair

Loyola’s annual Activities Fair showcased more than 70 clubs in Malloy Commons on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Director of Student Activities Chris Walter ’93 said, “Seeing the energy and excitement and the passion students have about their clubs gets other students excited about the clubs. The fair really raises awareness about the clubs and the variety of activities for our students.”

Fourteen new clubs were founded this school year, some of which include the Meditation Club, Entrepreneurship Club, Fishing Club, Worldwide Current Events Club, Ceramics Club and the Junior Coaches of Loyola Club.

Sophomore Jordi Ettinger, president of the newly reinstated German Club, said, “Before the Activities Fair we only had about six dedicated members but after [the fair]we got about 50 [names]on the email list and then 16 to 20 showed up to the meeting.”

Co-president of the Gladiator Club Ryan Nelson said, “Ours wasn’t the most popular table, but we still got a lot of signatures. It was fun to see everyone sign up and then come [to the meeting]this past Wednesday.”

Freshman Jackson Kruse, who signed up for the John Malloy ’61 Broadcast Club and The Loyalist, said the fair showcased the diversity of Loyola’s students. Kruse said, “I learned that the Loyola experience is different for everyone and that there is a niche for every student.”

Freshman Luke Turrill, who joined the Rowing Club, the True Gentlemen’s Club, and the Cubs Against Cancer Club said, “I learned about the different things that the clubs teach you and what we do in each of the clubs.”
